Pastor Martin continues the sermon series, Digging Wells. On our last sermon of the year he dives into reading your word, maintaining consistency and developing habits. Notes: Joshua 1:8 What makes the Bible different from any other book in the world? * It’s unity. It was written in a span of 1600 years through 40 authors, 3 continents and 3 languages and still managed to have a uniformity throughout all its accounts. Jesus Christ and the Word are ONE, the Word take the place of the unseen Christ 1. Whatever dominates your mind will dominate your life. The extent to which we think the thoughts of God to that same extent do we have the power of God A study show that when we are in the scripture at least 4 times a week * Feeling lonely drops 30% * Anger Issues drops 32% * Bitterness in relationships in marriage, kids and so on drops 40% * Alcoholism drops 57% * Feeling Spiritually stagnant drops 60% * Viewing Pornography drops 61% * Sharing Your Faith Jumps 200% * Discipling others jumps 230% 2. To know God is to know his Word God does nothing without his Word (Genesis 1:3) 3. The Word of God will change your life It will by its very nature change you (Joshua 1:8) * Don’t just commit scripture to memory but make it an integral part of your life Unless you live in the Word you miss the entire point. The more you read, the more you will understand yourself and this God who created you. Read it systematically, read it attentively, read it repeatedly, read it regularly, read it slowly. READ IT - your life depends on knowing it Six ways you can take the word of God into your life? 1. Read It 2. Listen to it 3. Memorize it 4. Meditate on It 5. Speak the word 6. Obey it It’s okay to visit many books, but live in the Bible – Charles Spurgeon Prayer: - I agree with Gods word and I disagree with any condition, any thoughts, any circumstances with anything contrary to Gods Word - Your Word is integrity itself, steadfast, sure, eternal… I trust my whole life to its provision - Your Word is final authority settling all questions and troubles - I trust my life to its provision
