Bio Bobby: Bobby started a personal finance blog called Millennial Money Man back in 2015 after paying off $40,000 of student loan debt on his teaching salary. He then foolishly quit his teaching job after making $3 from his website, realized he needed to make money quickly, started providing digital marketing services for local small businesses, and continued to grow his website. Fast forward to now, and he’s still a professional blogger (yes, it’s a real thing), and has had millions of loyal readers come to his website over the years. He’s also a Forbes contributor and has been featured in CNBC, Yahoo Finance, Forbes, Business Insider, and a whole bunch of other fancy media outlets. As you can tell, he thinks highly of himself (but in a very humble and likable way). Mike: Mike is a recovering attorney, Aggie, and all-around digital marketing badass. After starting an online fitness coaching on the side during law school, Mike started running Facebook ads for himself to bring in more clients. He quickly realized that he was a ninja master at running Facebook ads, and other people started to pay him to run theirs too. He ditched the fitness business, decided being a lawyer was overrated, fell in love with wine, and went on to grow a multi-six figure per year Facebook ad agency. Oh, and he did all of that as a stay-at-home dad to three small humans. (Between you and me, I’m pretty sure they are robot children) Key Take-Aways * When selecting a side hustle look through the lens of upfront cost, time commitment, income potential, how quickly you can make money or high leverage, and flexibility. * One of the ways to be successful with having a business and kids is to not care and involve them when you need to. If they interrupt when we are recording a podcast then so be it. We are not ashamed of kids being involved in our work. * Imposter syndrome is real. It’s a hard thing to battle with. It doesn’t ever go away. But it’s just like being a parent. One day you weren’t a mom and the next day you had a baby and you didn’t have a dang clue what you were supposed to do, but you figured it out little by little and you screwed things up and you kept trying because you gotta keep little thing alive and happy. Lightning Round 1. What is one fun fact about you that not that many people know? Bobby: People think that I’m extroverted and I am not at all. I hate going outside, but I hate talking to people generally if I can avoid it just because it’s, I’m just very introverted. Mike: I never went through puberty and still do not grow facial hair. 2. Who inspires you the most and why? Bobby: One of the very fortunate things about my businesses is that I’ve had a front-row seat to a lot of people changing their lives in a lot of different ways. I’m not just talking about running Facebook ads and all that kind of stuff. I’ve been able to watch people completely change over the five going on six years that I’ve been running Millennial Money Man it’s just people come into either the website or communities that I run or, or whatever and they feel they can’t do something. Then you just see them kind of evolve and become completely different people over the years. The same thing happened for me, I never thought that I would be at the point where I am now, owning multiple businesses and I’m doing pretty well in business. Mike: This is hard because I’m not a rah-rah person.
