Surah Al-Qadr (القدر) is the 97 chapter of the Qur’an. The surah titled in English means “The Power” and it consists of 5 verses.Surah Qadr is also referred to as “power of fate” and it celebrates the night which the first verses of the Qur’an were revealed by Jibreel. This surah also describes significance of Laylat al-Qadr which is the “night of decree” or “night of power” which happens during the last 10 nights of Ramadan, typically an odd-numbered night.The night of Qadr is the night in which the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The word ‘Qadr’ means “power.” On this night, Allah exhibits his power over everything and is the sole provider. As a result, Laylatul Qadr is an important night in Muslims’ calendars.This surah focuses on the “Night of Ordainment,” also known as Laylat al-Qadr, one of three auspicious nights that occur throughout Ramadan. In reality, Allah Almighty revealed the whole of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) throughout the night.On this night, Allah Almighty also gives his final approval to all that has transpired over the year. According to Allah Almighty’s explanation in this surah, angels will descend to earth on this night to offer believers with peace that will remain till the break of morning. As a result, one night is more significant than a thousand months combined.إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ فِى لَيْلَةِ ٱلْقَدْرِ1. Inna anzalnahu fee laylati alqadri1. Indeed, ˹it is˺ We ˹Who˺ sent this ˹Quran˺ down on the Night of Glory.وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا لَيْلَةُ ٱلْقَدْرِ2. Wama adraka ma laylatu alqadri2. And what will make you realize what the Night of Glory is?لَيْلَةُ ٱلْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ3. Laylatu alqadri khayrun min alfi shahrin3. The Night of Glory is better than a thousand months.تَنَزَّلُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ فِيهَا بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِم مِّن كُلِّ أَمْرٍ4. Tanazzalu almalaikatu waalrroohu feeha biithni rabbihim min kulli amrin4.That night the angels and the ˹holy˺ spirit descend, by the permission of their Lord, for every ˹decreed˺ matter.سَلَٰمٌ هِىَ حَتَّىٰ مَطْلَعِ ٱلْفَجْرِ5.
