He heroically recorded this quickisode solo as I couldn’t risk driving through the ice storm that we had this weekend. Apologies for my absence, but glad I still have internet & power to write these show notes for you all. As an added bonus, I can heckle Mike from afar because this will undoubtedly be the WORST EPISODE OF MMO EVER!!!! (Cuz I’m not in it.) Just kidding. I’m really proud of my co-host for holding down the fort to bring you your Monday movie talk fix, and if you listen, you’ll realize exactly what I just did, that he does not need me at all. That being said, let the heckling begin. Mike 1 starts the episode off like everyone’s awkward neighbor - with a chat about the weather. But don’t you worry, as I did. For when the microphone is turned on after that MMOW music plays, no topic is safe from a hot take, even when it’s just an MOW. MIke 1 kicks things off extra hot by condemning all meteorologists throughout our state for their utter incompetence in predicting this weekend’s weather (which I will gladly co-sign here), and within mere minutes, we are entertained. Mike updates you on our upcoming schedule with the Oscar Nom Reaction show coming to you on Tuesday. Then he previews our remaining Oscar Race coverage before diving into a few of our regular segments. SixDegreesOfMMO gets a new challenge, and this will finally stump even the best of you. I’m sure of it. (Somewhere nebisben is doing a Rocky montage of clicking on IMDB). Then Mike waxes poetic on the Oscar Race Update, which demands some commentary after those insane PGA Awards. So Mike drops a bunch of scary Producers Guild Award stats and discusses the recent history Best Picture winners in common with the PGA’s. He chats about the overall strength of the motion picture category and builds to the unlikely winner, Green Book. Where’s the backlash? Is it still yet to come? Or will the PGA’s be prophetic once again? Mike does a marvelous job of outlining the overall controversy, something we’ll continue to dive into throughout the rest of this Oscar Sprint. Then in a feat of oratorical prowess, he plays devil’s advocate against himself! Like I said, I’m very proud of Mike 1 for holding down the fort, and I’m excited to talk to him again soon in our next recording session, which we hope will be Tuesday after the nominations.
