Also, Jennifer Hudson can SING! ***This Review of RBG has a Spoiler Section*** Intro / Why we’re reviewing this now / What’s an OSP? - Top of the Show. So we felt this opened another window for us to give the Oscar Sprint Profile to the shortlisted documentary feature, RBG. If you enjoyed our other OSP’s on this year’s docs, then we do a great deal of non-spoilery comparison of RBG to Won’t You Be My Neighbor, Three Identical Strangers, and Free Solo. But even if you’re just now diving into this category, we do hope to offer a measured, yet complimentary movie review that even Justice Ginsburg herself would be proud of. That being written, we must offer some dissent to the film’s narrative structure. Though we also give credit where credit is due. If there was ever a living legend deserving of a feature length documentary paying tribute to her life & career, Ruth Bader Ginsburg is that legend. So we follow our usual Oscar Sprint Profile format here. That means you get a full non-spoiler section followed by more of a breakdown of the plot including our best and worst scenes after a spoiler warning musical interlude. We discuss some of the production backstory, all of the movie’s eye popping numbers and awards in specs, and shine an Oscar Lens on how this film stands up to the other potential nominees in the Best Documentary Category in non-spoilers. Then we have several good debates and break down some of the missed opportunities and where the movie succeeds most in our spoiler breakdown. It’s another loaded OSP from MMO about RBG, and acronym fans may rejoice with this sentence! (Go ahead and rejoice… I’ll wait.) Stay tuned for more of our OSP reviews of Oscar Contenders in the coming weeks. We’ve already reviewed near forty 2018 films that have been involved with this awards season in one way or another, and we’ll continue to try and hit all of the eventual nominees for the Academy Awards. We’ve also been having a ton of fun with our weekly variety show, MMOW. After we covered the Globes this past Monday, as well as the Guild Nominations and BAFTAs this past week, we plan to have our reactions episode to the Critics Choice Awards posted ASAP after Sunday’s broadcast 7-10pm EST on The CW. Check out our Critics Choice Awards Preview in that BAFTA show to get ready, and stay tuned. As always, let us know what you think of RBG.
