Making Progress Is More Fun Than "Fun"👇🏻 I've been on both sides of the "fun" spectrum - The dopamine-addicted side and the life-fulfilling side. Dopamine-addicted fun represents what people in their 20s and 30s do to forget about the future. They party, binge-watch TV, spend too much time scrolling through social media and push away discipline. I call this "acute fun." Acute fun is where you seek immediate gratification to forget about the future. However, too much acute fun leads to procrastination because you're addicted to it. However, fulfilling fun represents what I'm currently doing now. I'm working hard and staying disciplined to create a future where I don't need pockets of fun to make me happy. I'm building a life where I can consistently worry less about the future, or what I like to call having "chronic fun." Chronic fun is where you delay gratification by developing habits, achieving your goals, and creating a less stressful future. Although it sounds intimidating, chronic fun is much more fulfilling than acute fun. Chronic fun is living intentionally through discipline, consistency, hard work, and sacrifice, resulting in more freedom. During the first 18-25 years of our lives, our brains are still developing and molding, allowing us to continue evolving. However, once we hit 28, our brains stop evolving, making it harder to improve and grow. So, instead of seeking acute fun to relieve stress temporarily, we should seek chronic fun. We all choose actions that define our future. So, it's critical to live intentionally with the future in mind. It's up to you whether you seek fun now or later. The future is fast-approaching, so you must decide the path you will take before it could be too late.
