Let’s be honest here – the idea of motherhood doesn’t always match the reality. Too many women have the professional wind knocked out of them after having their first child and realizing, “I can’t keep going the way I was before.” That was certainly the case for my guest on this week’s episode of The Money, Career & Motherhood Podcast. Raquel Kelley was killing it in her career as a producer for E! Entertainment. All-nighters and red carpets were her thing…pre-baby that is. Raquel had a plan for her life, until babies turned her life upside down. Through a cross-country move, postpartum depression, and a complete career rehaul – motherhood changed everything in Raquel’s life. But this isn’t a sad story, because as Raquel says, “Sometimes, you have to crumble before you can be built back up.” This episode is a must listen for every mom who thought they had it all figured out, until their little bundle of joy arrived! About the Guest: Raquel Kelley began her career at E! Entertainment on Live! From the Red Carpet. While looking glamourous from the outside, her knack for pulling back the curtain on what really happens behind the scenes started here. Over the next decade Raquel climbed the ranks at NBCUniversal to become a producer on the hit show Fashion Police. Inspired by Joan Rivers, who despite being eighty-years-old could out-run, outwit, and out-cuss the entire cast and crew, Raquel wanted a comical creative outlet for herself. While going through the wedding planning process, she created I Guess I Do, a blog focusing on the funny, relatable stories behind the pretty pictures. Due to the success of her blog, Raquel became the LA expert for Conde Nast at BRIDES Magazine, a writer for Running with Heels Magazine, as well as Featured Blogger for The Huffington Post. After having her first child, she was then asked to contribute to HuffPost Parents where she was a top contributor and her articles were featured internationally. Raquel then had two children under two who served her up some major humble pie and made pulling all-nighters before awards shows and working with Joan look like a cake walk. But as she has always done, Raquel is onto her next project and is ready to pull back the curtain on her hardest job-to-date: Motherhood.
