501: The incredible friendship of Ben Gillies and Chris Joannou from silverchair

Have you ever thought about the story behind your favourite band? How did they create their sound, how did they become a world-wide sensation, how did it all start? In 1994, three young teenage boys from Newcastle, Dan, Ben and Chris aged 14, entered a competition to record a song at the studios of the station Triple J. Little did they know, when Dan’s Mum filled out the entry form and sent it in, along with a cassette tape and a photo of them on a stoop of a house, that they would become world-wide sensations. Today I am joined by Ben Gillies and Chris Joannou. They’ve just written and released their book, Love & Pain, which takes you on the journey of silverchair. Silverchair where more than just a band, they were a brotherhood. As they join me for a conversation, I learn about what really made them something special.
