016- Overcoming Addiction: A Graceful Approach - Part 1

Practical Shamanism - Podcast autorstwa Katie Weatherup

In addressing addiction, it’s valuable to understand ourselves through a compassionate lens.  Your intensity of need for the thing you’re trying to let go of may be outdated.  And it can be helpful to understand how your own biology may push you in a not so healthy direction if you don’t know how to provide it with adult supervision. This approach is more aligned if a) you have the ability to sit with some emotionality, at least briefly, even if you don’t much enjoy it and b) your addiction is something important to address but not something that any additional usage will create an immediate and terrible detrimental result in your life. My guides offer an approach that honors both the part of you that prizes the pleasure and relief that substance or behavior provides as well as the part of you that is invested in long-term health and well-being.  When we’ve been fight with ourselves over an addiction for a long time, those parts become polarized and stuck in a massive power struggle.  This work offers a path of reconciliation that puts your inner wise person in the role of the benevolent mediator that works for the good of both aspects.
