Cooking with Kids: Make it FUN, Easy, Educational and HEALTHY with Beans Van Zyl

In this episode of The Honest Hour, I chat with YouTuber & child-focused healthy food enthusiast, Beans Van Zyl. I first came across Beans on Instagram in early 2019 and was attracted to her gourmet-looking but oh-so-easy to make healthy meals and sweet treats. Not only does Beans share the most beautiful content, videos and images of making her own recipes, but she has a way of including her kids in on the action so that it is fun, educational and an amazing opportunity to bond. Before becoming a Mom, Beans studied to be a foundation phase teacher and opened her own successful baking business. As I said in our chat, her journey is a true example of the wisdom Steve Jobs so aptly imparted upon us years ago, “you can’t connect the dots looking forward you can only connect them looking backwards.” This was absolutely true for Beans. Who would know that the unique value of her combined love for baking, early childhood development and health would born her brand Coco Bean Cooks? In our chat, we discuss everything “health, cooking and motherhood,” from early led weaning to her own worries about health to her early years of being a picky eater herself and more. Beans believes in healthy and wholesome living and that it centres on balance and joy. She believes in including the kids in on the fun, in teaching them through applicable learning and tangible action, and in taking our health in to our own hands with researching the facts ourselves. Chatting with Beans encouraged me to be more inclusive of my kids on making healthy dishes in the kitchen and encouraging their natural curiosity when it comes to food and our bodies.
